The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the closure of all driver license and photo centers statewide for two days due to an impending winter storm. From January 26 to January 27, 2024, these closures will affect every facility in the Commonwealth, including the full-service center located in Harrisburg.
The decision to shut down in-person services is aimed at ensuring the safety of both customers and staff during severe weather conditions. In light of this disruption, PennDOT officials indicated that individuals with road tests scheduled during this period will be contacted directly to reschedule. Additionally, those affected can also reschedule their tests online at https://www.dmv.penndot.gov/exam_scheduling/eslogin.jsp.
Online Services Remain Available
Despite the physical closures, PennDOT emphasized that a broad range of driver and vehicle services will remain accessible online at https://www.pa.gov/dmv. These digital services include renewals for driver’s licenses, photo IDs, and vehicle registrations, as well as changes of address, driver history requests, and payments for various fees. Importantly, PennDOT noted that there are no additional charges for utilizing these online services.
As a reminder for those planning domestic air travel, PennDOT highlighted that a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card, or another acceptable form of identification such as a passport, is now mandatory for boarding domestic flights. Residents uncertain about whether they need a REAL ID can refer to PennDOT’s online REAL ID wizard at pa.gov/REALID for guidance and information on obtaining one.
