The 34th annual Water Street Lighted Parade in Decorah is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on December 12, 2023. This beloved community event will feature a procession that begins on Riverside Avenue before turning west onto Water Street. The parade will journey through downtown Decorah, concluding its route after a right turn onto Mill Street, near the Vesterheim Museum.
Participants can still sign up for the parade until December 9. Those interested in taking part are encouraged to register via the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce website. This year’s theme, “O Christmas Tree,” invites entrants to showcase their creativity through festive decorations and ample lighting. Awards will be presented for the best floats, with one large and one small float recognized for their exceptional incorporation of the theme.
Jessica Rilling, Executive Director of the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed her excitement about the event. “The parade is a magical event, and we are always in awe of the creativity and effort that the businesses and organizations put into their floats,” she stated. Rilling also confirmed that Santa Claus will make an appearance, encouraging the community to come out and welcome him.
Spectators are advised to arrive early to secure prime viewing spots along the parade route. For further information regarding the event, individuals can visit the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce website at decorahareachamber.com or contact the chamber office at 563-382-3990.
