Wilmington Police Arrest 19-Year-Old After Stolen Gun Discovery

WILMINGTON, DE — A 19-year-old man was arrested on December 4, 2023, after Wilmington police officers recovered a stolen handgun during a street encounter. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address gun crime in the area.

At approximately 11:34 a.m., members of the Gun Intelligence Unit were conducting patrols near the intersection of West 4th Street and Delamore Place when they encountered Ollier Mays. During this interaction, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Investigators later confirmed that the firearm had been reported stolen from Chester, Pennsylvania. This detail adds complexity to the case as detectives continue to trace the weapon’s history. Mays was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
