Ruth Ilene Blair Miller, a beloved figure known for her warmth and dedication to family, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 95. Just 12 hours later, her husband, Albert V. Miller, followed her, marking the end of a profound partnership that spanned over seven decades.
Born on March 25, 1930, in Superior, Arizona, Ruth’s early life took a significant turn after World War II when her family relocated to Ukiah, California. She graduated from Ukiah High School in 1947 and began her professional journey as a switchboard operator for Pacific Telephone.
On April 7, 1952, Ruth married Albert V. Miller at the submarine base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. The couple returned to civilian life in 1953 and established their home in Ukiah. In 1958, Albert joined the California Highway Patrol, which led them to various cities, including Bakersfield, Upper Lake, Glendale, and Palm Desert, throughout his 28-year career.
While Ruth cherished her roles as a wife and mother, she also contributed to the workforce. Her employment included positions as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Upper Lake Unified School District, an administrative secretary at a Southern California hospital, and a staff member at a Dean Witter stock exchange office. Later, she worked as front desk personnel at the La Quinta Golf Resort, where she welcomed guests, including notable politicians and celebrities.
Ruth’s life was enriched by her diverse interests. She enjoyed sewing, photography, reading, writing, history, and genealogy, reflecting her creativity and curiosity. After retiring, Ruth and Albert spent five years in Colorado before returning to California. In 2016, they moved to Henderson, Nevada, to be closer to their son, Kent, who unfortunately passed away in early 2025. Following his death, they lived with their granddaughter, Brianne Hidalgo, and her family.
Their enduring love story is highlighted by the fact that both Ruth and Albert lived long, fulfilling lives together. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William Edwin Blair Sr. and Edith M. Tierney Blair, her brother William “Bill” Edwin Blair Jr., her sister Barbara Blair Pittman, and her son, Kenton Miller.
She is survived by her son, Keith E. (Missy) Miller of Denver, Colorado; her daughter, Kimberlee D. Schloss of Marina, California; granddaughters Brianne E. (Homero) Hidalgo of Henderson and Riley Anne Schloss of Marina; and great-grandchildren Vivian Rose Hidalgo and Emerson Rey Hidalgo, both of Henderson.
