Jessica Lacy Set to Depart Range Media Partners After Sundance

Jessica Lacy, the head of indie film sales and packaging at Range Media Partners, is poised to leave the company next year, according to multiple sources. Lacy, who joined the management firm in 2022 as a partner to lead the specialty division Range Select, is expected to carry her existing team through the 2026 Sundance Film Festival market while considering her future options.

Insiders indicate that the decision for her departure is mutual, though specifics regarding the timeline for her exit remain undisclosed. Range Media Partners has not issued any comment on the situation, nor has it clarified when the firm will begin the search for a replacement.

Lacy’s tenure at Range Media Partners follows an impressive two-decade career at ICM Partners. During her time there, she worked with prominent filmmakers and was involved in projects that achieved critical acclaim at major global festivals, including Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, Berlin, and SXSW.

Some of her most notable deals include the landmark $25 million sale of “CODA” at Sundance, which went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture in 2022. Other significant projects she facilitated include Cooper Raiff’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” Regina King’s “One Night in Miami,” and the 9/11 drama “Worth,” featuring Michael Keaton. Lacy also played a crucial role in the distribution of Karyn Kusama’s acclaimed films “Destroyer” and “The Invitation.”

Founded in 2020, Range Media Partners was established by a group of leading agents who transitioned to management after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) imposed a halt on television packaging fees. The firm is co-owned by former eOne executive Pete Micelli, along with former CAA agent Dave Bugliari and Jack Whigham, among others.

In addition to its management division, Range Media Partners is developing several film projects. Upcoming titles include a biopic on legendary musician and Velvet Underground co-founder Lou Reed, inspired by the 2023 biography “Lou Reed: The King of New York” by Will Hermes. Other projects in development explore the iconic screen partnership of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, as well as “Soul Train,” a movie adaptation of the highly anticipated stage musical about legendary producer Don Cornelius.

As Jessica Lacy prepares for her next chapter, her impact on the indie film landscape remains significant, and her departure marks a notable shift for Range Media Partners. The industry will be watching closely to see what lies ahead for both Lacy and the firm after the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
