URGENT UPDATE: High winds have caused a significant delay in Fargo’s garbage and recycling collection, originally scheduled for Thursday, December 18. The city has announced that pickups will now occur on Friday, December 19, due to dangerous weather conditions.
Officials confirmed that eight garbage trucks and three recycling trucks began their routes at 8 a.m. but were forced to halt operations around 12:30 p.m. as high winds tipped over many bins, creating hazardous conditions on the streets. According to Jen Pickett, recycling supervisor for the city of Fargo, the situation is frustrating for both the crews and residents.
“Eight out of the ten cans on the street are probably tipped over. This means our workers have to jump out to stand them up, empty them, and then move on, which is incredibly time-consuming,” Pickett stated.
Residents whose trash and recycling were not collected on Thursday are urged to place their bins out by 8 a.m. on Friday, weather permitting. The city is closely monitoring conditions and aims to resume normal service as quickly as possible.
This delay impacts many Fargo residents who rely on timely waste collection. It serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions and their immediate effects on community services. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
