BREAKING: Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) has just announced the launch of daily nonstop flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), starting on May 21, 2026. This highly anticipated service, provided by American Airlines, aims to enhance travel options for local residents and businesses.
Passengers will gain direct access to one of the busiest airports in the U.S., connecting them to hundreds of destinations across the globe. Tickets for this new route officially went on sale on December 22, allowing travelers to secure their flights immediately.
Gene Cossey, president and CEO of Tri-Cities Airport, expressed enthusiasm about this development:
“This is a significant addition for our airport and our region, one we’ve been working toward for a long time. We know there’s strong demand for this service, so we’re excited to finally be able to offer it to our local passengers.”
Chicago O’Hare serves as a major hub for American Airlines, ensuring frequent flights and widespread connectivity for TRI passengers. The new service is expected to facilitate business meetings, family visits, and leisure travel, significantly impacting the local economy.
The introduction of this route is backed by a collaborative effort from local businesses, regional partners, and community leaders. TRI received a substantial boost of $900,000 through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development (SCASD) Program, which played a crucial role in bringing this service to fruition.
Franco Tedeschi, vice president of U.S. airports and strategic partnerships at American Airlines, commented on the importance of the new route:
“This route is designed to foster connections — whether meeting with business partners, visiting family, or exploring new destinations, customers in the Tri-Cities region will now have easier access to hundreds of cities across our global network.”
This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to improve air service in smaller communities, ensuring they remain connected to the national air transportation system. The SCASD Program aims to empower small and midsize communities like TRI to enhance their air travel options based on regional demand.
Cossey concluded,
“We’re so grateful for the support that made this new route possible. We want to thank all the local businesses, leaders, and community partners that pledged their support, the Department of Transportation for awarding this grant, and of course American Airlines for seeing the value in our region.”
With the new daily nonstop service set to launch on May 21, 2026, travelers are encouraged to book flights at aa.com and take advantage of this exciting opportunity to connect with the world from Tri-Cities Airport. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches!
