Gingerbread Architects Compete in Chico Contest Today

UPDATE: The Chico Community Gingerbread House Contest is heating up today at the Museum of Northern California Art, where talented architects of all ages showcase their edible masterpieces. With a total of seven entries, this inaugural event features creations that are at least 80% edible, according to Pat Macias, the museum’s Executive Director.

These delicious designs include iconic structures such as the El Rey Theater, a childhood home, a haunted chapel, and a whimsical sugar wonderland. The excitement builds as participants await the announcement of winners at the exhibit’s reception scheduled for 3 p.m. today. A distinguished panel of judges will determine the best in each category, as well as the coveted people’s choice award.

This contest, inspired by the renowned National Gingerbread House Competition in Asheville, North Carolina, was organized by members of the Downtown Chico Business Association, including Jodi Drysdale and Pam Young. Their initiative has brought together a vibrant community of both children and adults, with entries from as young as six years old.

As anticipation grows, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to attend the reception and witness the creativity and craftsmanship on display. This event not only highlights local talent but also fosters a sense of community and holiday spirit as Chico residents come together to celebrate the art of gingerbread architecture.

For those who can’t make it today, the exhibit will remain open, allowing everyone to experience the sweet creations that embody the joy and festivity of the season. Don’t miss your chance to participate in this delightful celebration and support local artists!

Stay tuned for the latest updates on the winners and highlights from this unique event as the gingerbread community in Chico makes history today.
