Harris County Unveils $244,000 Marsh Master for Flood Control

URGENT UPDATE: Harris County has just unveiled a groundbreaking amphibious maintenance machine called the Marsh Master, aimed at enhancing flood control efforts across the region. This innovative equipment was officially introduced today, December 11, 2025, and is already making waves in the fight against flooding.

The $244,000 Marsh Master, crafted specifically for wetland and swampy terrain, is set to transform how the Harris County Flood Control District manages its extensive network of waterways. According to Jason Krahn, chief infrastructure and operations officer, this machine allows access to areas previously unreachable by traditional equipment. “This is going to allow us to get into areas we’ve never been able to access before with operational machinery,” Krahn stated.

The Marsh Master is part of a larger initiative, with a $17 million investment funded through a 2024 bond approved by local voters. It will help maintain the flood control district’s extensive 2,500 miles of bayous, creeks, drainage channels, and stormwater holding areas. The investment not only enhances operational efficiency but also aims to reduce the reliance on external contracts for maintenance.

Krahn emphasized the importance of this machine, especially in the aftermath of storms. “We have the equipment we need where we can get into those areas, do our assessments, and quickly remove that debris and restore the systems,” he explained. This capability is crucial for ensuring that the county is always prepared for potential flooding events.

The Marsh Master features a hydraulic shredder deck, allowing it to maintain vegetation effectively while traversing marshy landscapes. This versatility increases the flood control district’s operational capabilities significantly, making it an essential asset in their fleet.

As Harris County prepares for the unexpected, the introduction of the Marsh Master marks a significant step toward enhancing flood resilience. Expect more updates as this story develops.
