UPDATE: Salvatore Maimone, an esteemed member of the local community, has passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at Capstone Nursing Home on December 23, 2025. Born in Meri, Messina, Sicily on March 26, 1937, Maimone leaves behind a legacy cherished by family and friends alike.
Maimone’s journey began in Italy, where he was born to Giuseppe and Concetta Campo Maimone. He married his beloved wife, Antonina, in 1957, and together they built a family before immigrating to the United States in 1971. They settled in Schenectady, where he became a respected mason for Local 190 in Albany and a proud member of the Sons of Italy.
Following the loss of his wife in 2006, Maimone continued to be a pillar of strength for his children, Giuseppe and Orazio Maimone, and his grandchildren, including Nicolina, Angelo, Kamden, Ava, Sal, Anthony, and Roberto. He is also survived by his sister Anna from Italy, along with great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
A calling hour is scheduled for Monday, December 29th, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. The funeral service will commence at 12 p.m., followed by interment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
