Team Canada has officially announced its roster for the 2026 Olympic Games, confirming that three players from the Vegas Golden Knights will represent the nation. Mark Stone, Shea Theodore, and Mitch Marner have earned their spots on the team, which will compete at the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
All three players participated in last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, where Canada triumphed over Team USA in overtime, thanks to a game-winning goal from Connor McDavid, assisted by Marner. Marner has made history with the Golden Knights, becoming the fastest player in franchise history to reach 30 assists, achieving this milestone in just 37 games. He currently leads the team with a total of 40 points this season after joining from Toronto in the offseason.
Stone has also made a significant impact this season, scoring nine goals and accumulating 30 points, despite missing 16 games. He recorded at least one point in his first 14 games, scoring six goals and adding 18 assists during that period. Theodore, on the other hand, has had a quieter start. After setting career highs last season with 50 assists and 57 points in 67 games, he has four goals and 20 points in his first 31 games this year but has been sidelined with an injury for the last six games.
Coaching Staff and Roster Updates
The coaching staff for Team Canada includes Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Bruce Cassidy from the Golden Knights, and former Golden Knights coach Pete DeBoer, who recently parted ways with the Dallas Stars. While the defense lineup remains the same from the 4 Nations tournament, changes have been made to the forward group and goaltending positions. Notable additions include goaltender Logan Thompson (Washington) and forward Nick Suzuki (Montreal), alongside forwards Tom Wilson (Washington), Macklin Celebrini (San Jose), and Bo Horvat (New York Islanders), as well as goaltender Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles).
Several players from the previous roster have been omitted, including forwards Sam Bennett (Florida), Travis Konecny (Philadelphia), and Seth Jarvis (Carolina), along with goaltenders Adin Hill (Vegas) and Sam Montembeault (Montreal). Hill is currently out due to injury, having posted a record of 1-0-2 with a 2.73 goals-against average and an .888 save percentage in five starts before being sidelined since October 20. Cassidy has mentioned that Hill is “getting closer” to a return, but he remains week-to-week.
Additional Roster Highlights and Injuries
The roster also includes prominent forwards such as Anthony Cirelli (Tampa Bay), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh), Brandon Hagel (Tampa Bay), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado), Brad Marchand (Florida), McDavid, Brayden Point (Tampa Bay), and Sam Reinhart (Florida). The defensive lineup features Drew Doughty (Los Angeles), Thomas Harley (Dallas), Cale Makar (Colorado), Josh Morrissey (Winnipeg), Colton Parayko (St. Louis), Travis Sanheim (Philadelphia), and Devon Toews (Colorado). Goaltender Jordan Binnington (St. Louis) will also represent Canada, marking the return of NHL players to the Olympic stage for the first time since 2014.
As Team Canada prepares for the Olympics, Team USA is set to announce its roster on Friday. Notably, Jack Eichel will make his Olympic debut after being named as one of the initial six players in June. Meanwhile, Golden Knights forward Jonas Rondbjerg is among the first players selected for the Danish team.
In a recent development, Team Sweden will be without William Karlsson. Cassidy had previously expressed optimism about Karlsson’s return prior to the Olympics, but it has now been confirmed that he will not be available for the competition. Karlsson has been sidelined since November 8 due to an injury and has recorded four goals and seven points in 14 games this season.
As the Olympic Games approach, the excitement builds for both the players and fans alike, eager to see how Team Canada performs on the international stage.
