Todd Cassity has resigned as head football coach of Chelsea High School, marking the end of a four-year tenure at the Shelby County institution. His decision, announced on October 10, 2024, comes as he plans to relocate to Georgia and continue his coaching career.
In a statement, Cassity revealed his aspirations to coach for another decade, indicating that he has secured opportunities in Georgia that he intends to pursue in the spring. “After 28 years, 11 as a head coach, it’s just time to go ahead and do something different,” he remarked. The coach emphasized that the timing of his departure will allow Chelsea to find a suitable replacement before the upcoming season.
During his time at Chelsea, Cassity compiled a record of 14 wins and 27 losses. His initial two seasons saw the Hornets compete in Class 7A, facing formidable opponents such as Thompson, Hoover, and Hewitt-Trussville. In recent years, the program showed improvement, finishing with a 5-5 record in 2025 and reaching the playoffs with a 6-5 record in 2024.
Cassity, 51, has a career record of 74 wins and 72 losses, with previous coaching stints at Gordo and J.B. Pennington. Following his announcement, he addressed his team and school administrators, noting the emotional nature of the decision. “There were a lot of emotions, but it was good emotions,” he said. Cassity expressed pride in the progress made during his tenure, highlighting the development of the current senior class, who were freshmen when he began coaching at Chelsea.

Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, Cassity mentioned several improvements to the football program, including renovations to the home side of the football field, the installation of a new scoreboard, and the addition of new turf. “A lot of good things have happened here with the help of the city and county. I feel very blessed to have been a part of that,” he stated.
