The Town of Addison has officially canceled the long-running Taste of Addison Food Festival after more than three decades. Following significant financial losses of over $750,000 last year, the Addison City Council voted during a work session on October 3, 2023, to discontinue the event, which was scheduled for April 17-19, 2024.
The city announced the decision this week, noting that the festival, which celebrated local cuisine and community spirit, would no longer take place. A representative from the Town of Addison shared, “After 30 years of food, music, and fun, Taste Addison has taken its final bow. While the three-day festival will no longer occur, its spirit will definitely live on.”
The council members expressed a desire to redirect funding towards initiatives that would promote Addison’s vibrant dining scene in more effective ways. Discussions suggested investing in media exposure or organizing a dedicated restaurant week akin to those in nearby Dallas. The festival had featured over 200 local restaurants, including popular spots such as The Hub Sportsbar and Nate’s Seafood, but struggled to remain financially viable.
Despite the event’s popularity and accessibility—offering early access tickets for $10 and discounted admissions for residents and veterans—the financial losses proved unsustainable. Last year, attendees enjoyed a variety of culinary offerings from more than 50 participating restaurants, with special pricing for families and community members.
While Taste of Addison will no longer be part of the spring calendar, the Town of Addison confirmed that its beloved Oktoberfest event remains scheduled, promising to uphold the community’s tradition of celebrating local culture and cuisine. The city aims to explore fresh, innovative ways to continue promoting its renowned dining options throughout the year.
