The Ataris to Release First New Album in 19 Years in 2026

The Ataris, a renowned pop-punk band, has announced plans to release their first new album in 19 years, targeting a launch in either March or April 2026. Bassist Mike Davenport confirmed the news in an interview with Punk Rock Philosophy, stating, “The new record is done!” The album will feature “Car Song,” the band’s most recent single, which debuted in May 2025.

Davenport expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming release, emphasizing the emotional journey behind the project. He remarked, “I am really excited about it! We are anxious to get the full record out and for you all to hear it.” He highlighted the dedication of lead singer and guitarist Kristopher “Kris” Roe, stating that Roe poured his heart into the album. “His best attribute is writing songs and putting the finishing touches on everything in the studio,” Davenport added.

One of the notable aspects of this album is Roe’s vocal performance. Davenport noted that many musicians experience vocal decline over the years, yet Roe’s voice has improved significantly. “When old friends come out and see us on tour, they all say ‘his voice was amazing last night’,” he said. This improvement, according to Davenport, is evident in the new material, indicating a revitalized energy within the band.

30 Years of The Ataris

2026 marks a significant milestone for The Ataris, celebrating 30 years since their formation in 1996. The band reformed following two lengthy hiatuses, and Davenport noted a newfound sense of purpose that emerged after the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. “Covid was a reset—the band came back from that on a mission which we haven’t been on since we were kids,” he explained. “Our focus and our mission is to make new music and be the best band we can be every time we go on stage.”

The Ataris gained prominence during the MySpace and Warped Tour era, releasing five albums between 1997 and 2007. Their discography includes well-loved tracks such as “In This Diary,” “San Dimas High School Football Rules,” and “So Long, Astoria.” In recent years, the band has continued to engage with fans, offering demos, live recordings, and a re-recording of their hit “The Boys of Summer.”

As they prepare for the new album, The Ataris have scheduled over a dozen tour dates for 2026. This comes after the cancellation of two concerts in Buffalo and Syracuse due to Roe’s back injury. Fans can find tickets through platforms like StubHub and Seat Geek.

The anticipation surrounding The Ataris’ return is palpable, with many looking forward to experiencing their new music and witnessing the band’s evolution after nearly two decades. With a fresh focus and renewed energy, the upcoming album promises to be a significant chapter in their storied career.
