Marin City Celebrates MLK Day with Justice Theme and Community Spirit

The Marin City Community Services District is set to hold its 27th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration on January 15, 2026. This year’s theme, “charting a new blueprint for justice,” reflects a commitment to ongoing social change and community engagement. The keynote speaker for the event will be Dana Emerson, assistant superintendent and vice president of the College of Marin, while the master of ceremonies will be Rev. Floyd Thompkins, the pastor of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

The celebration will take place from 11:00 to 15:00 at the Manzanita Recreation Center gymnasium located at 630 Drake Avenue. Attendees can look forward to a series of musical performances beginning at 11:00, followed by the main program at noon. A lunch will be provided afterward at the senior center across from the gym, fostering community connections and fellowship.

Utility Line Burial Project Starts in Mill Valley

In Mill Valley, construction crews have commenced a project to bury utility lines along the Redwood Highway Frontage Road in Strawberry. According to local authorities, the work began this week and involves collaboration between the county and Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

The project is expected to take four to five weeks, with construction scheduled from 21:00 to 05:00, Sundays through Thursdays. This timing will help minimize disruption, although intermittent lane closures on the frontage road and nearby Highway 101 are anticipated. Following the completion of the burial project, PG&E, AT&T, and Comcast will install new underground utility lines, which will lead to the removal of overhead lines and poles. The county projects that the entire process will be completed by the end of the year.

San Rafael Library Trustees Appoint New Officers

In San Rafael, the Board of Library Trustees has appointed Mary Kyle as chair and Sunny Lee as vice chair during its recent meeting. Jinder Banwait, a city administrator, confirmed that these one-year appointments were made as part of the board’s efforts to enhance library governance.

Both Kyle and Lee joined the five-member advisory panel in 2023, and their terms are set to conclude in April 2027.
