Kiya Tomlin, wife of former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, expressed her gratitude to the Pittsburgh community following her husband’s resignation from the team on January 13, 2024. In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram Story, Kiya acknowledged the support they received during Mike’s lengthy tenure as coach.
Kiya’s Message to Supporters
“As many of you are aware, my husband has stepped down from his position as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Kiya stated. She emphasized her pride in Mike’s achievements, both on and off the field. Reflecting on the past few days, she described the overwhelming response from current and former players as “deeply moving,” reinforcing her belief in her husband’s purpose and character.
Mike Tomlin served as head coach for the Steelers for 19 seasons, during which he led the team to a Super Bowl victory in his second year and maintained a record of never finishing a season with a losing record. His resignation came amid increasing calls for change from frustrated fans, especially given that the Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016.
A Legacy of Coaching and Family
Kiya and Mike’s partnership began during their college years at the College of William & Mary, where Mike played football and Kiya was a member of the gymnastics team. They married in 1996 and have three children, all of whom pursued collegiate athletics. Their sons, Dino and Mason, played football at Boston College and Columbia University, respectively, while their daughter, Harley, is currently a gymnast at the University of Georgia.
In her message, Kiya highlighted Mike’s commitment to mentoring young men, stating, “His mission began long before the titles and headlines, back when we first met in college.” She added that coaching and fatherhood allowed him to fulfill this calling, noting that the impact he had on countless young people is his true legacy.
The emotional atmosphere surrounding Mike’s departure was palpable, as reported by The Athletic. One staff member described the situation as feeling “like a funeral.” Reports indicated that quarterback Aaron Rodgers was visibly upset, shedding tears when Mike announced his resignation.
In addition to supporting her husband, Kiya is also an accomplished designer who runs her own fashion brand. She launched the Coach T Collection in 2025, aiming to inspire confidence both on and off the field. “The Coach T Collection was my way of sharing that mentorship with the world,” she explained. “Capturing the lessons, discipline, and mindset that shaped so many lives.”
As the Tomlin family looks toward the future, Kiya expressed her gratitude for the community’s support, saying, “Thank you for your support, your words of kindness, and the warm reception our family has received over the last 19 years.”
