Held this week, the exhibition features various defense companies from around the globe, but Iranian representatives are missing for the first time in recent editions. In previous years, officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attended DIMDEX, exhibiting indigenous naval guns, drones, and air defense systems. Their participation has now been overshadowed by escalating tensions in the region. The recent military strikes by Israel and the United States against Iranian targets have heightened the stakes, leading analysts to speculate on Iran’s growing isolation.
David Des Roches, a defense and Gulf security expert, highlighted the implications of Iran’s absence, suggesting it reflects a deepening isolation for the country. He noted the complex dynamics at play, particularly given the military actions Iran has taken against Qatar, which included targeting a US military base within its borders in June. “There are two countries that have fired missiles at Qatar: Israel and Iran,” Des Roches stated. “Neither of them are here.”

Marwa Maziad, an assistant professor at the Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies at the University of Maryland, elaborated on the strategic implications of Iran’s decision to skip the event. She suggested that Iran is intentionally distancing itself from Gulf States amid fears of escalating tensions. “I think that Iran doesn’t want to show up in this show right now, because maybe what’s to come is more escalations, and it’s isolating itself from the Gulf,” Maziad remarked.

While DIMDEX organizers did not respond to inquiries about Iran’s absence, the presence of two operational Patriot missile launcher canisters on display underscored the ongoing military readiness in response to threats.
