BREAKING: The Villages, Florida, mourns the loss of beloved resident John Joseph Matwijcow III, who passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 59. His family confirmed the news, highlighting his gentle spirit and the profound impact he had on those around him.
John was born on January 16, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and grew up in South Plainfield, New Jersey. He spent years in Bridgewater, New Jersey, as well as Nazareth and Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Florida in January 2025.
A graduate of the McCauley School, which supports students with special needs, John was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics. His commitment to sports showcased his determination, joy, and love for engaging with others. He also participated in supported services through THE ARC, contributing to his community and taking pride in meaningful daily activities.
John’s passion for life was evident in his love for Elvis Presley and his enjoyment of music, television game shows, and art. His fondness for Italian food and trips to McDonald’s often brought a smile to his face, epitomizing his gentle and joyful nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Matwijcow, Jr. and Patricia Ann Cirigliano Matwijcow, as well as his mentor and brother, Joseph Matika. John is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Ann Matwijcow Kopke and Jessica Ann Matwijcow Clark, who was also his primary caregiver. He leaves behind a family that includes David, Christopher, Brenda, Adrian, Jasmine, Emily, Mark, Isabel, Jacob, Chelsea, and Vega (Jonathan).
A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future, with details expected to be announced soon. Those who knew and loved John are invited to share their memories and pay tribute to a man who brought quiet joy and connection to their lives.
