Walters Emphasizes Team Spirit and Development with Bengals

Duce Walters, the wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals, expressed a strong commitment to his current role, emphasizing the importance of faith, family, and football in his life. Reflecting on the influence of his mentor, former NFL coach Tony Dungy, Walters stated, “Faith was number one. That’s the same for me, and it all stems from that.” His approach to coaching is deeply rooted in these values, which he aims to instill in the players he mentors.

While Walters has received opportunities to interview for offensive coordinator positions, including with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals, he remains focused on his current responsibilities. “I take it year by year,” he said. “Right now, I love being a receiver coach with the guys I’ve got, and I love developing.” This commitment to growth is evident in his work with a diverse group of players, from the fifth overall draft pick, Chase, to practice-squad veteran Mitchell Tinsley, and sixth-round selection Andrei Iosivas.

Walters has played a crucial role in the Bengals’ offensive strategy under head coach Zac Taylor. He has taken on various responsibilities throughout his tenure, including game management and red zone situations. Currently, he oversees first- and second-down base passes, collaborating closely with his fellow coaches. “We all have our area of expertise, and they rely on everybody in terms of game plan, input, and so on,” Walters explained.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he is part of a coaching staff that includes future NFL head coach Brian Callahan and current offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, who recently interviewed for the head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns. Taylor ensures that his assistants share the responsibilities of a coordinator, which fosters a collaborative environment.

Looking forward to the upcoming season, Walters expressed optimism about the potential of the Bengals’ wide receiver group. “I feel like we’re going to do something special this upcoming season, and I want to be a part of it,” he noted, highlighting his dedication to the team’s success.

Dungy, who has mentored Walters, affirmed his belief in Walters’ abilities and dedication. He remarked on Walters’ choice to forgo an interview in Chicago, stating, “He loves working for Coach Taylor. He loves his receivers… They’ve got something special going.” This affirmation underscores Walters’ commitment to the Bengals and the strong relationships he has built within the organization.

With a focus on development and teamwork, Walters is poised to help elevate the Bengals in the competitive landscape of the NFL. As the team gears up for the new season, both he and the organization remain dedicated to achieving great success on the field.
