Seuss on the Loose Returns to Elizabethton on March 7!

UPDATE: The highly anticipated Seuss on the Loose event is set to take over downtown Elizabethton on Saturday, March 7, 2024, from noon to 3 p.m. Families across the community are invited to celebrate the joy of reading and the beloved works of children’s author Dr. Seuss in a vibrant, interactive festival.

Hosted by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, Main Street Elizabethton, and the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library, this event promises a fun-filled afternoon. Activities will unfold throughout downtown Elizabethton and at the picturesque Covered Bridge Park, where attendees can immerse themselves in the world of Dr. Seuss.

Kick off the festivities at the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library, where participants can grab a “Sneetch Sheet” and map to explore various participating locations. Families are encouraged to visit local businesses and community groups such as The Curious Moon Apothecary, Riverside Taphouse, and First Christian Church for engaging guest readings, crafts, and Seuss-inspired treats.

As families collect stickers at each stop, they will have the opportunity to head to Covered Bridge Park, transformed into a whimsical wonderland featuring themed decorations inspired by Dr. Seuss’s timeless tales. Iconic characters like the Cat in the Hat and The Grinch will make special appearances, delighting attendees of all ages.

Community partners are stepping up to ensure a memorable experience, with activities hosted by organizations such as the Children’s Advocacy Center, ECS Family Resource Center, and Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians. The park will also feature free inflatables and food trucks, ensuring fun and nourishment for everyone.

Families are reminded to submit their completed Sneetch Sheets at the red mailbox in the gazebo by 2:45 p.m. for a chance to win exciting prizes. This community event is not just about reading; it’s about fostering a love for literacy and encouraging community engagement.
