During an intrasquad scrimmage in late August, Coach Mick Cronin had high hopes for Dent, a transfer who showcased his skills with exceptional dribble moves and precise passing. Fast forward six months, and those expectations seemed distant as Dent struggled with injuries and confidence. However, his recent performances against No. 10 Illinois and USC have reignited optimism among teammates and coaches alike.
In those two games, Dent amassed a combined 44 points, alongside 23 assists and zero turnovers. His ability to navigate through defenses with skillful drives and accurate passes has been a game-changer. “You know when you guys came to practice this summer? That’s the guy you saw,” Cronin remarked after the USC game, referencing Dent’s earlier potential.
Dent’s journey back to form has involved overcoming various challenges. His trainer, Shannon Sharpe, noted that the pressures of being a key player weighed heavily on him. “When you’re the guy on the team, those wins and losses kind of fall on your shoulders,” Sharpe mentioned, highlighting the difficulties Dent faced adapting to a new system and teammates while managing injuries.
