Hope High School boys’ basketball team has earned a spot in the championship game after a thrilling 59-53 victory over Cranston West in the semifinals of the 2026 Division II playoffs on March 2 at Fitzgerald Gym. The Huskies will face the winner of the upcoming matchup between St. Raphael and Burrillville in the league title contest scheduled for Thursday night, March 5, at 8:00 PM at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence. Fans are eagerly anticipating this clash, as the second-seeded Saints are set to host the 11th-seeded Broncos in their semifinal on March 3. Burrillville made headlines by upsetting third-seeded East Greenwich with a 69-53 win, while St. Raphael narrowly defeated seventh-seeded Narragansett 50-48.
For Cranston West, the season ends with a 15-9 record, following a commendable run that included a victory over the 2025 Division II champions, Moses Brown. The Falcons fought hard but could not overcome Mt. Hope’s early lead, which was established with a dominant 17-9 score at the end of the first quarter.
The Huskies showcased their resilience and skill throughout the game. Will Francis made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring six of his eight points in the first quarter alone. Jacob Tamke’s impressive behind-the-back pass set the tone for Mt. Hope, and Maleaq Roderick’s contributions helped maintain their lead.
Despite a brief scare when Cranston West closed the gap to 20-19, the Huskies regained control, finishing the first half at 29-21. Roderick’s step-back jumper and an alley-oop dunk from Tamke to Bam Adams energized the home crowd and pushed Mt. Hope ahead.
