The team last claimed a sectional championship in 1974, when they finished as state runners-up. Coach Matt Plummer leads a squad eager to break a five-year postseason drought, with their last regional title dating back to 2021. The Raiders will rely heavily on senior RJ Duncheon, a two-way player committed to Illinois State, and Auggie Lyons, who will continue his career at Illinois Central College. East Peoria opens its season against Illinois Valley Central on March 17.
Dunlap is another team to watch, aiming for a third consecutive appearance in the Class 3A sectionals. Coach Eric Stone needs just one more victory to reach the milestone of 100 wins with Dunlap. However, the team faces the challenge of replacing key player Davis Weeks, now a freshman at Michigan State.
