Kent Hamilton Named Southeastern Farmer of the Year at Sunbelt Expo
Kent Hamilton, CEO of Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable, Inc., received the prestigious title of Southeastern Farmer of the Year during the Sunbelt Expo on October 17, 2025. The announcement came at the Annual Willie B. Withers Legislative Luncheon, where Hamilton’s achievement was met with enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation from attendees, highlighting the significance of this honor for both Hamilton and Georgia agriculture.
The recognition is particularly notable as Georgia is this year’s Spotlight State at the Sunbelt Expo, marking a significant moment for the region’s agricultural community. In his acceptance speech, Hamilton expressed his gratitude, stating, “Wow! What an honor, y’all. What an honor and what an accomplishment.” His heartfelt remarks resonated with the audience as he dedicated the award to his late brother, who shared his passion for farming.
A Tribute to Family and Community
Hamilton reminisced about his early days in farming, reflecting on a family tragedy that shaped his journey. He revealed that he started farming with his brother in the mid-1980s, who tragically passed away in a farming accident in 1987. “So, I want to dedicate this to him, to my older brother,” he said, setting a poignant tone for his speech.
He continued by acknowledging the role of faith in his life and career. “First of all, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me,” Hamilton stated. He emphasized the importance of gratitude for the opportunities he has had in the United States, expressing appreciation for those who have served in the military and sacrificed for freedom.
Hamilton also recognized his parents, particularly his late father, who did not live to see the success of their farming venture. He spoke fondly of his mother, describing her as a dedicated business partner who tirelessly promoted Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable. “I’m humbled to have good parents,” he noted.
Acknowledging Support and Team Effort
In a heartfelt moment, Hamilton thanked his wife, Pam, for her unwavering support throughout the years. “She’s always been the cheerleader in the background,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to his children—Courtney, Austin, Kaylee, and Presley—for their sacrifices during his career.
Hamilton recognized the contributions of his team at Hamilton Growers and Southern Valley, stating, “It’s certainly a team effort for me to be standing here where I’m standing today.” His acknowledgment of employees in all areas of the operation underscored the collaborative nature of farming and the importance of community.
Closing his speech, Hamilton extended his thanks to Chip Blalock, Executive Director of the Sunbelt Expo, and the organization for hosting the Southeastern Farmer of the Year program. He described it as an incredible initiative that fosters competition and camaraderie among farmers in the region. “I’m just humbled to be selected as the final winner,” he concluded, receiving another round of applause from the audience.
Hamilton’s achievement not only highlights his individual contributions but also reflects the strength and resilience of Georgia’s agricultural community, marking a triumphant moment for all those involved.
