Durango Girls Lacrosse Crushes Santa Fe Prep 13-2 in Senior Night Showdown

Durango High School Girls Lacrosse Delivers Dominant 13-2 Victory Over Santa Fe Prep on Senior Night

The Durango High School girls lacrosse team rebounded emphatically from last week’s toughest defeat with a commanding 13-2 senior night win over Santa Fe Prep this Friday. The Demons stormed out of the gate and never let up, showcasing a powerful blend of speed, sharp defense, and clinical offense in front of a pumped-up home crowd.

After suffering their worst loss of the season against Palmer Ridge last week, Durango looked like a completely different team. Head coach Eric Elliot praised the squad’s resilience, especially the seniors who led the charge. “I think I’m undefeated on senior nights and so is the team, so that’s pretty good,” Elliot said, emphasizing the team’s confidence and cohesion.

Explosive Start and Unrelenting Pressure Seal the Deal

Durango exploded early, netting three goals in the first four minutes. Junior standout Indie Eaton spearheaded the attack with a total of four goals and two assists. Freshman Janelle Dingler, contributing three goals and three assists, and senior Taylor Babcock, with three goals and an assist, rounded out a robust offensive showing.

The Demons dominated transition play as aggressive defense led by sophomore Keelyn Reynolds – who created an astonishing 10 caused turnovers – disrupted Santa Fe’s offensive rhythm. “It almost seems like she’s setting up her defender to go by her,” Elliot said, lauding Reynolds’ hockey-like anticipation and fierce stick checking that fueled fast-break opportunities.

Durango held a commanding 7-0 lead before Santa Fe managed to score, ultimately cruising to an 8-1 halftime advantage. Junior goalie Jody Holden kept the opposition at bay with six key saves, including crucial close-range stops.

Strong Senior Leadership Pushes Demons to Big Win

The second half saw Durango maintain control, frustrating Santa Fe’s offense through sustained pressure and quick transitions. The Demons increased their lead to 11-2 entering the final quarter, propelled by Babcock’s floor vision and scoring ability.

Seniors Scarlett Ramsey, Babcock, and Laurel Dondlinger received well-earned recognition during the postgame senior night ceremony, a moment highlighting their leadership on and off the field. Coach Elliot praised their pivotal role in integrating 10 new players this season and fostering a seamless team dynamic. “Their leadership is amazing,” he said.

Looking Ahead: Durango Targets Continued Success Against Telluride

With their season record improving to 8-3, Durango is poised for another test against Telluride at home this Wednesday at 4 p.m.. Fresh off this emphatic win, the Demons will look to maintain momentum as the season intensifies.

This dominant senior night victory not only marks a statement for Durango but also signals their continued presence as a competitive powerhouse in girls high school lacrosse.

“They mean everything. Their leadership has made this a great team this year,” head coach Eric Elliot said of his seniors.
