Layton Police Hunt Suspect After Brutal Unprovoked Gas Station Assault

Layton Police Pursue Suspect in Shocking Gas Station Dog-Walking Attack

Authorities in Layton, Utah, are urgently searching for an unknown man who violently assaulted a local resident while he was walking his dogs outside a Chevron gas station on Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive during the evening hours of April 28. The attack, described by police as unprovoked, was partially captured on surveillance video and has stunned the quiet community.

Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski of the Layton Police Department confirmed the call came into dispatch with the victim frantic and running for help, signaling immediate danger. “Dispatch reported that the victim sounded like he was running and asking for help,” Bobrowski said. Surveillance footage shows a man in a green hoodie aggressively confronting the victim and attempting to kick one of his dogs before physical violence erupted.

Police reports detail the suspect screaming at the victim before rapidly closing the distance, leading to a physical fight where the victim was punched repeatedly. In defense, one of the victim’s dogs bit the suspect, but the attack escalated further when the victim produced a knife, which the suspect then forcibly took before fleeing the scene toward the nearby Quail Cove Apartments.

“There’s a couple of aspects to this one,” Bobrowski explained, referring to the assault on both the man and his dog, as well as the theft of the knife during the scuffle. Despite the violent nature of the incident, police emphasized that it appears to be an isolated event with no ongoing public threat.

Community Reacts with Shock and Concern

Locals expressed surprise at such an unprovoked assault in an area known for its safety. “I walk my dog here at all hours and I’ve never had any issues,” said Ko-Ko Kabwasa, a Layton resident. “It’s kind of scary just to see what the world’s come to. And then you’re going to attack the man’s dog for what? What did you get out of that?” Kabwasa questioned, echoing many community members’ confusion and concern.

Layton Police urge anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information to contact them immediately at 497-8300, referencing case L26-10572. For public safety, officials advise residents not to approach the suspect if spotted.

Why This Matters for Communities Across the US

This rare attack in a typically peaceful neighborhood highlights growing concerns about random violent acts affecting everyday activities like dog walking. It underscores the importance of vigilance and community cooperation with law enforcement to quickly resolve such incidents. Public safety officials nationwide are increasingly facing calls to address unexpected street violence, making this case a sharp reminder for all residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity.

As the investigation continues, The Nevada Voice will provide updates on the search for the suspect and any leads uncovered. For now, residents in Utah and beyond should stay aware and take extra precautions while out in public spaces.

Lieutenant Bobrowski: “This seems to be an isolated event, but we’re dedicated to bringing this suspect to justice swiftly.”
