Hahnville Tigers Capture Thrilling State Softball Title with Walk-Off Victory
The Hahnville Tigers pulled off a heart-stopping walk-off win to secure the coveted Division I non-select state softball championship in Sulphur, Louisiana, clinching a 6-5 victory over Live Oak High School Sunday.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jordyn Chaix delivered a clutch single that allowed Rylee Villasenor—who had been intentionally walked earlier—to race home on a tight play at the plate, sparking wild celebrations from the Tigers’ dugout. This dramatic finish crowned Hahnville state champions for the first time since 2011.
Standout Performances Propel Hahnville to Victory
Villasenor was the star of the day, smashing two home runs and driving in five runs in total. For her jaw-dropping performance, she earned the tournament’s Outstanding Player award. “This is once in a lifetime,” Villasenor said about the moment. “Not everyone can say they made it to Sulphur and even fewer can say they won it all there.”
Chaix, who sealed the victory, described her at-bat with poise. “I knew I had a big job to do… I had so much faith in Rylee’s speed,” she said. “I’m so excited for everyone on our team.”
Coach Jeremy Duplantis Celebrates Second Title in Three Years
Hahnville’s head coach, Jeremy Duplantis, is quickly cementing his legacy after winning his second state championship in three seasons—the first with Vandebilt Catholic in 2024, and now with Hahnville in 2026.
“Every time Live Oak scored, our girls came back stronger, ready for the next at-bat,” Duplantis said. “Our tough schedule prepared us mentally for this moment.”
