Carol A. Stent, Beloved Wife and Community Advocate, Passes Away
Carol A. Stent, a cherished member of her community and a devoted wife, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her beloved husband, David Y. Nakahara. Carol’s life was marked by an adventurous spirit, deep connections, and a profound love for animals and family.
A Life Well-Lived
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Carol was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis. She graduated from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation in 1957, where she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the teaching Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. As the eldest of seven siblings, she took on a nurturing role early in life.
After graduation, Carol and four classmates ventured to San Francisco, California, seeking careers and new experiences. She soon caught the eye of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England, during his residency at Los Angeles County U.S.C. Hospital. They married at the iconic Wayfarers Chapel and welcomed a life filled with promise.
Commitment to Family and Community
Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found love again with David Y. Nakahara, an attorney based in Torrance, California. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989, and together they raised a family of seventeen beloved pets. Carol was passionate about animal welfare and often advocated for their care, reflecting her belief in the importance of compassion for all living beings.
Despite facing challenges, including a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, Carol remained a pillar of support for David’s aging parents, offering her wisdom and care during their final years. Her resilience and spirit inspired those around her, illuminating lives with her humor and kindness.
Carol A. Stent is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her legacy of love and dedication to family and community will be remembered by all who knew her.
In her memory, friends and family are encouraged to honor her spirit of kindness and advocacy for animals, cherishing the beautiful moments shared with Carol throughout her vibrant life. Soli Deo Gloria—Only to God the Glory.
