In a standout performance, freshman Emily Pregnolato scored five goals to propel the top-seeded Edison girls’ soccer team to a decisive victory over ninth-seeded Dunellen in the quarterfinals of the GMC Invitational. The match, held on October 20, 2023, concluded with a score of 7-1, marking a significant achievement for the Eagles as they advance to the semifinals.
Pregnolato’s impressive display brought her season total to 16 goals, with 12 of those scored in the last three matches. This scoring surge has helped Edison secure a three-game winning streak, elevating their overall record to 5-13. The Eagles will face Perth Amboy in the semifinals, scheduled for Thursday.
Edison’s dominance was evident throughout the game. In addition to Pregnolato’s five goals, Samantha Stryker and Kimberly Ochoa added to the tally, showcasing the team’s offensive strength. Dunellen managed to score a goal through Jizela Vargas, but it proved to be a brief highlight, as Edison quickly responded with seven unanswered goals.
