Edgewater’s Ben Jones Earns Army All-American Bowl Invitation

UPDATE: Edgewater offensive tackle Ben Jones, formerly known as Ben Bankowitz, has just been selected to play in the prestigious US Army All-American Bowl on December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. This recognition marks a significant milestone in Jones’ career, highlighting his hard work and dedication on the field.

Jones, ranked No. 43 in the Sentinel’s 2026 Central Florida Super60, has been a cornerstone of the Edgewater Eagles’ offensive line for four seasons, contributing to the team’s impressive undefeated record of 9-0 this season. His performance has been pivotal in securing the team’s championship in Class 7A, District 5.

“I try to not think about it too much, just give the glory to God, but it does feel really good,” Jones said during the official jersey presentation at Edgewater High. He recently changed his name in honor of his stepfather, Eric Jones, showcasing his humility and commitment to family.

The Eagles are set to face off against Boone, also undefeated, in the highly anticipated Barrel Game rivalry on October 30, 2023. Jones expressed confidence in the team’s abilities, stating, “We’re not close to done. In our minds, we still got six more games.”

As a technician on the field, Jones emphasizes the importance of technique for offensive linemen. “Working on technique in practice and then putting it into the game, good things happen,” he explained. His agility and quick footwork at 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds make him a formidable presence on the line.

Jones, who committed to Appalachian State on June 17, has praised the recruitment efforts of offensive line coach Allen Mogridge, noting the strong culture at the Mountaineers. “They are building something special up there,” he said, affirming his commitment to the program.

Under first-year coach Patrick Browning, Jones has thrived, attributing his growth to Browning’s mentorship. “I don’t have enough good words to say about Coach Browning,” he remarked, highlighting the strong bond among his teammates. “Our senior class, we are like actual brothers.”

The Eagles’ unity has been crucial following the departure of former head coach Cameron Duke to Georgia. Jones noted, “We had team meetings and talked every day about how we had to have the whole team stay on track during the offseason.” This commitment has solidified their success as a cohesive unit.
