National Drug Take Back Day: Dispose of Medications Safely This Weekend
URGENT UPDATE: National Drug Take Back Day is set for this weekend, offering a crucial opportunity for citizens to safely dispose of unused or expired medications. This nationwide initiative takes place on October 25, but local events are being held this weekend, providing accessible drop-off locations.
In Beaufort County, residents can dispose of medications at the Bluffton Kroger, located at 27 Discovery Dr., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Law enforcement officials will be on-site to collect unwanted pills, liquids, gels, and patches, ensuring safe disposal. This event is organized in collaboration with the Cardinal Health Foundation.
Meanwhile, in Chatham County, a drive-thru drop-off will be available at the West Chatham YMCA, located at 165 Isaac G. Laroche Dr. in Pooler. This event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Residents can anonymously dispose of their medications thanks to the efforts of Memorial Health Hospital, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia.
Additionally, Toombs County residents can participate by bringing their medications to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office at 357 NW Broad St., Suite #1 in Lyons, available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is important to note that needles and liquids will not be accepted at this location.
This initiative highlights the ongoing battle against drug misuse and environmental hazards posed by improper medication disposal. By participating, community members contribute to a healthier, safer environment and help combat prescription drug abuse.
Stay tuned for updates as more drop-off locations may be announced in the coming days. Share this information widely to ensure your community can take part in this essential event!
