Skoda Revives Rare 1000 MBX with Exciting Electric Makeover
BREAKING: Skoda’s design team has unveiled a stunning digital concept of the rare 1000 MBX, originally launched in 1966 with only 1,403 units ever produced. This exciting project, part of the brand’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, showcases how the classic model could be reimagined using Skoda’s latest Modern Solid design language.
The revival, completed in just four weeks by Antti Savio and David Stingl, presents a boxy coupe that retains the original’s rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The modern reinterpretation features eye-catching elements, including rear-hinged doors reminiscent of the Mazda RX-8, providing easy access to its uniquely designed interior.
This concept car boasts high-end features such as a height-adjustable air suspension and an unusual glass-covered oval dashboard, setting it apart from Skoda’s current offerings. While the original 1000 MBX was a pioneering model for the Czech automaker, this digital version is purely speculative and will not enter production.
Skoda emphasizes that projects like the 1000 MBX serve as imaginative exercises rather than previews of future models. The design team aims to spark nostalgia while pushing the boundaries of automotive design. As with previous concepts, including the recently revealed Vision O, the 1000 MBX pays tribute to its heritage while showcasing future potential.
This latest endeavor reflects Skoda’s commitment to innovation and creativity in the automotive space, even if these concepts remain confined to digital sketches. Car enthusiasts and fans of retro designs are encouraged to engage with this exciting project, which illustrates a fascinating blend of past and future.
Stay tuned as Skoda continues to explore new horizons in automotive design, even as these fascinating concepts remain tantalizingly out of reach for production.
