Kansas City Chiefs Game Experience and Community Engagement

A recent trip to Kansas City transformed into a memorable experience for fans attending the Chiefs game. Among the attendees were local residents Linda Malnar and Mandy Milam Harris, who shared their excitement as they watched the Chiefs take on the Raiders.

Before the game, preparations included health updates and civic duties. On the Monday prior, individuals visited Walgreens for vaccinations. Pharmacy technician Daniella administered COVID-19 and flu shots, while pharmacist De’Marcus provided the RSV vaccine. Following this, they confirmed that Ernest had last received his tetanus shot in July 2020, eliminating the need for another. With a tetanus shot valid for ten years, it was also noted that both needed pneumonia vaccinations.

Participating in civic responsibilities, they voted absentee on local amendments, encountering community members such as Charda Bronaugh and Dee Bennett at the polling station. The voting site was staffed by Richard Martinez, an elections judge, alongside workers Kimberly Thomas, Rhonda Doss, and Betty Dufner. Notably, Ernest and his companion were the 128th and 129th voters on the second day of voting.

The week progressed with health check-ups, including a visit to LabCorp for tests. Cynthia handled a blood draw, with Rhonda stepping in to assist in locating a vein. Celebrating 15 years with LabCorp, Rhonda provided support during the process. Additionally, Sean Moran, the attending physician, conducted a yearly check-up where a simple spelling test created a moment of levity.

Attending the game, Mandy and her companions found themselves in prime seating. Mandy and Josiah Harris occupied row one of section 118, while Linda and Shelby Harris were in row one of section 120, both just yards from the sideline. The atmosphere was electric, filled with enthusiastic chants and cheers, particularly directed at star player Travis Kelce. Despite their efforts to capture his attention with a sign, he did not acknowledge them.

The group returned to Bullard with an estimated arrival time of 12:45 am. For Mandy, this was her third visit to a Chiefs game, highlighting her dedication as a die-hard fan.

In addition to personal experiences, a call for volunteers emerged from the community. The East Texas Food Bank announced a need for 50 to 75 volunteers for its Holiday Food Box Distribution event. Scheduled for December 1, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Angelina County Expo Center in Lufkin, Texas, the event seeks individuals willing to assist in various capacities. Available shifts include traffic controllers, intake staff, and loading assistance, catering to those who wish to give back to the community.
