Community Mourns Loss of Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, 73

BREAKING: The community of Cloquet, Minnesota, is mourning the loss of beloved resident Betty Jean “Jeanne” Ruth, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2025. Jeanne, aged 73, was a cherished figure known for her kindness and warmth, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship.

Jeanne was born on March 23, 1952, in Alexandria, Minnesota. Growing up as the youngest of four in a lively family, she spent much of her childhood in ORR and later moved to Proctor, where she graduated high school in 1970. Throughout her life, Jeanne maintained close ties with friends from both schools, often attending reunions and sharing fond memories.

In 1973, Jeanne met her husband, Norman “Norm” Ruth, and they married on May 4, 1974. Their 36 years of marriage were filled with love, travel, and shared experiences until Norm’s untimely passing in 2010. Together, they raised their son, Ryan, who, along with his wife Andrea, became a source of immense pride for Jeanne. Her grandsons, Alex and Eli, were the light of her life, bringing joy and laughter, especially during their time together at UMD hockey games.

Jeanne’s professional journey was marked by dedication and success. She started at Travelers Insurance and later worked with various organizations, including the Duluth Builders Exchange and the Arrowhead Builders Association. After a brief stint at Duluth Business University, she returned to the insurance sector, ultimately retiring from State Farm Insurance in 2016.

Known for her elegance and compassion, Jeanne was a friend to many and a mentor to those she encountered. Her genuine interest in others and her ability to make everyone feel welcome defined her character. Friends recall her love for the symphony and theater, as well as her knack for turning simple moments into cherished memories.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Larry Sizer, and other beloved family members. She is survived by her son Ryan, daughter-in-law Andrea, grandsons Alex and Eli, siblings, and numerous friends and relatives who will miss her dearly.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. A gathering with appetizers will take place after the service, allowing attendees to share stories and celebrate Jeanne’s remarkable life.
