Verizon and AWS Join Forces to Enhance AI Applications Through Fibre

Verizon Business and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a partnership aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) applications by leveraging Verizon’s AI Connect portfolio. This collaboration will establish high-capacity, low-latency fibre routes designed to connect AWS’s multiple regions, significantly enhancing data movement between cloud infrastructures and edge devices.

The agreement represents a pivotal shift towards optimising data transfer for AI workloads, as noted by Verizon Business. The company emphasizes the increasing demand for edge-native, high-capacity networks that facilitate real-time performance. This trend highlights the necessity for specialized infrastructure to support the next phase of AI development.

Details of the Partnership

Verizon’s AI Connect offering integrates the operator’s extensive fibre infrastructure, which encompasses long-haul, metro, local fibre, and optical networks. This infrastructure is complemented by Verizon’s capabilities in power, space, and cooling. The collaboration will provide AWS with robust and resilient network paths, significantly improving the performance and reliability of AI workloads.

Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of AWS Infrastructure Services, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it will enable customers across various industries to “build and deliver compelling, secure, and reliable AI applications at scale.”

Verizon’s selection of AWS as its preferred strategic cloud provider aligns with its ongoing digital transformation initiatives. The two companies initially collaborated on mobile edge computing (MEC) in late 2019, followed by the launch of a private service in 2021.
