URGENT UPDATE: The ongoing federal shutdown is causing significant disruptions to flight schedules nationwide, and Duluth International Airport is feeling the impact. As of this morning, one of four daily Delta flights between Duluth and Minneapolis/St. Paul has been canceled, raising concerns for travelers.
The canceled flight, originally scheduled to arrive in Duluth at 3:30 p.m. and depart at 4:10 p.m., was confirmed by Natalie Baker, the airport’s director of communications and marketing. The exact cause of the cancellation remains unclear, but the broader context shows that approximately 40 major airports, including MSP International, have been ordered to reduce flight operations by 10% in response to staff shortages resulting from the federal shutdown.
Airlines are prioritizing hub-to-hub and long-haul flights, putting regional services, like those to Duluth, at greater risk. Baker stated, “We’re not expecting any immediate impact,” but acknowledged that the situation is rapidly evolving as airports move toward the mandated reductions.
Passengers are urged to check with their air carriers for updates on their itineraries, especially those with connecting flights. Many airlines, including Delta, are allowing customers to rebook without financial penalties during this period of uncertainty.
“I wish we had more information,” Baker added. “All of this is subject to change right now. So, we’re keeping our finger on the pulse.”
Currently, Duluth International Airport operates four daily flights to and from MSP International via Delta, as well as four daily flights to and from Chicago through United Airlines. Travelers should remain vigilant and proactive in confirming their travel arrangements amidst these developments.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation unfolds.
