The San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade in Mission Hills was the standout event, attracting approximately 20,000 attendees and featuring around 2,000 veterans from various military eras.
The parade kicked off at 11:11 AM, symbolizing the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. Beginning at Laurel Canyon and San Fernando Mission boulevards, it moved south to Paxton Street in Pacoima, with the theme “Honoring those who served past and present.”
Among the honored were former U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Martin Lopez and former U.S. Army Pvt. Gregory Garcia, serving as grand marshals. The event showcased military history and community spirit, with performances by marching bands and emotional tributes from families honoring their loved ones, including Vietnam Veterans Edward Landin and Richard Altamirano.
In Pasadena, a significant ceremony took place at City Hall, where community leaders gathered to honor Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Colonel Raymond G. Harvey. His legacy as one of the most decorated soldiers in U.S. Army history was celebrated with heartfelt speeches and a special flyover by the Condor Squadron.
Across the county, Long Beach hosted festivities aboard the historic Queen Mary, featuring live music, arts and crafts, and complimentary admission for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Meanwhile, Hermosa Beach held a ceremony at its Veterans Memorial, where local leaders emphasized the importance of service and sacrifice.
The annual event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley featured reenactments, including the iconic Iwo Jima flag-raising, creating a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans.
