Gerald R. Cote, Former GE VP, Passes Away at 85

UPDATE: Gerald R. Cote, a prominent former Vice President at the General Electric Company, has passed away at the age of 85 on November 12, 2023. Known affectionately as Jerry, he made significant contributions to the engineering field throughout his distinguished career.

Born in Derry, NH on July 21, 1940, Jerry graduated from Pinkerton High School and later earned a degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His professional journey began at GE, where he excelled in various roles across the nation. Jerry’s remarkable ascent in the company culminated in his role as Vice President, with assignments in Louisville, KY and Schenectady, NY.

Jerry was not only a dedicated professional but also a loving family man. He married his high school sweetheart, Sally Cote, in July 1963, and together they shared a life filled with love and support. Tragically, he was preceded in death by both Sally and their son, Brian Cote. Jerry is survived by his two sons, Andrew Cote and Christopher Cote, along with two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who brought him immense joy.

An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry played multiple sports during his high school years and continued his passion for athletics by coaching his son in little league and high school baseball. He later discovered a love for golf, competing and enjoying the game with friends and family. A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, Jerry was known to watch or listen to every game, showcasing his unwavering loyalty to his teams.

In accordance with Jerry’s wishes, there will be no service held. Friends and family are encouraged to honor his memory by making memorial contributions to The Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
