Free Health Services Offered in Talo’fo’fo’ on November 21

Residents of Talo’fo’fo’ will have access to a range of free health services on November 21, 2023, as part of an initiative by the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS). This outreach event will take place at the Jeromy Newby Community Youth Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., aiming to promote healthier living through various services.

Those attending can benefit from free immunizations and physical exams for both children and adults. The immunization program is specifically designed for children aged 2 months to 18 years who are either enrolled in Medicaid or the Medically Indigent Program (MIP), or who do not have insurance coverage. Vaccines offered include DTaP, IPV, Hep B, Hep A, Hib, Prevnar, MMR, Tdap, Td, MCV, HPV, and the annual flu shot, all while supplies last. Notably, tuberculosis (TB) skin tests will not be available at this event.

In addition to immunizations, free physical exams will be provided. Health education sessions will address critical topics such as diabetes, tobacco use, and hypertension. The event will also include program eligibility assessments for breast and cervical cancer screening programs, as well as for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.

For those seeking information and support, representatives will be available to discuss vital statistics, including marriage, birth, and death certificates. Information on mental health and primary care services offered at Community Health Centers will also be provided, alongside resources for aging programs and doula services through the Bureau of Women’s Affairs.

To ensure a smooth experience, attendees are advised to bring specific documents for immunizations. This includes the child’s birth certificate, current shot record, and a valid photo ID for the parent or guardian. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or authorized adult, with appropriate documentation if the adult is not a parent.

Why this initiative matters
The Talo’fo’fo’ Village Outreach is part of DPHSS’s broader Village Outreach Initiative, which aims to deliver health and wellness services directly to communities. By collaborating with village mayors and local partners, DPHSS seeks to enhance access to care, allowing residents to receive essential services, ask questions, and stay informed about their health.

Future outreach plans
While this will be the final outreach event for 2023, DPHSS has expressed commitment to continuing these efforts into 2026. A subsequent announcement for the next Village Outreach is anticipated in February, promising another opportunity for residents to access free health and social services.
