CVCA Dominates VASJ 42-7, Advances to State Semifinals

URGENT UPDATE: Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) triumphed over Villa Angela-St. Joseph (VASJ) with a decisive score of 42-7 on Friday night, securing their spot in the Division III state semifinals. The game took place at Twinburg High School’s Tiger Stadium, where the undefeated Royals showcased their dominance on both offense and defense.

CVCA, now boasting a record of 12-0, surged to an impressive 21-0 lead in the first half. Although VASJ (10-2) managed to respond briefly with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Joe Efford to Ardell Chapman, CVCA retaliated immediately. Just before halftime, quarterback Charley Levak connected with DonGino Bickley for a 36-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 28-7.

The second half was entirely dominated by CVCA. VASJ struggled to gain ground, failing to advance past their own 20-yard line on their opening drive, resulting in a fumble. Wesley Keeler capitalized on the miscue, returning it 14 yards for a touchdown, extending the Royals’ lead to 35-7.

Wesley Keeler delivered a standout performance with four total touchdowns, including three rushing scores and the crucial fumble return. “Our rushing attack was great today, and we knew that if we were to go far this year, it was going to be because we were running the ball great,” said Levak. “It was an awesome thing and at the end of the day, it was a lot of fun.”

The Royals’ defense continued its season-long excellence, holding their ninth opponent to ten points or less. “It feels amazing. All of us are onboard,” Keeler expressed about their journey towards a state championship. “We want to give all glory to Jesus, and that just means more than we can ever imagine.”

Looking ahead, CVCA will face Toledo Central Catholic (10-4) next Friday in the Division III state semifinal. Fans are eager to see if the Royals can maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the state championship game.
