UPDATE: Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman has announced an urgent relocation of her branch office from Elkton to Bel Air, set to occur in early or mid-February 2024. This move, confirmed in a news release this week, aims to enhance accessibility for taxpayers across Harford County.
The new office will occupy a 2,650 sq-ft building on Emmorton Road, previously an M&T Bank branch. “Relocating to Harford County will allow us to meet more taxpayers where they are, reducing the time and distance they must travel to get to us,” Lierman stated.
The last day for in-person services at the Elkton location will be December 31, 2023. However, branch employees will continue to assist residents virtually by appointment, expanding the agency’s virtual offerings to ensure uninterrupted service.
“Our commitment to customer service is unrelenting,” said Ana Garay, director of the Taxpayer Services Division. “Whether someone reaches us in-person, online, or by phone, the Taxpayer Service Division aims to provide timely, accurate, and quality support to taxpayers across Maryland and beyond.”
This strategic move is not just about a new address; it’s a critical step to better serve Marylanders with tax-related inquiries, including filing and submitting tax returns. Currently, the Comptroller’s office operates several tax service locations throughout the state, including Baltimore City, Frederick, Prince George’s, Montgomery, Allegany, and Wicomico counties. Additionally, the agency plans to relocate its offices in Frederick and Montgomery counties next year, as part of a broader initiative to enhance taxpayer access.
