Born on September 6, 1928, in Rochester, he was the son of Oscar and Hilma Eko. Robert grew up surrounded by his siblings, Lorraine, Lucille, and Johnny, and spent his summers immersed in the rural life of his grandparents’ farm in Lincoln Creek Valley.

A Life Built on Family and Community

After graduating from Rochester High School, Robert briefly served in the U.S. Army. In 1959, he married his beloved wife, Peggy Lynette, and together they established their home on a scenic 20-acre property atop Davis Hill in Centralia. There, they constructed a house, barn, and gardens, cultivating a life filled with love and hard work, which included raising quarter horses.

Robert was an active member of the Sheriff’s Posse and dedicated many years to the logging industry as a high climber, skillfully scaling trees of impressive heights. His career later transitioned to the Centralia Coal Mine, where he continued to demonstrate his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.

Legacy of Independence and Vitality

Throughout his life, Robert was known for his remarkable independence and love for hard work. He enjoyed good health well into his later years, showcasing his tenacity by high climbing trees at the age of 86 and weed-eating sidehills at 95. His loyal companion, a dog named Tucker, was a constant presence by his side.

Robert is survived by his brother, Johnny (Kathy); his three children, Kimberly (Mike), Kristy (Chris), and Brian (Leanne); and his cherished grandchildren, Jake and Emma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, who shared in his love for the outdoors and commitment to their family.
