UPDATE: In a stunning midseason achievement, Eian Schwecke of Moscow wrestling has just been honored as the Tribune’s Prep Athlete of the Week following his remarkable performance at the George Wild Tournament. Schwecke triumphed last month in Kellogg, clinching the 132-pound title and earning the distinction of Overall Outstanding Wrestler.
Schwecke’s journey to this accolade was nothing short of impressive. According to his coach, Zac Carscallen, “He kind of dominated his way to the finals, then he ended up beating a Montana state champion in the finals pretty handily.” This victory solidified Schwecke’s status as a formidable competitor in the wrestling community.
Currently attending Kendrick High School, which lacks its own wrestling program, Schwecke collaborates with Moscow for training during the regular season. As he prepares for the postseason, he aims to compete at the small-school level. Notably, he is a two-time district champion, having previously won at 112 pounds as a freshman and 126 pounds as a sophomore. He also placed third at State last year, showcasing his consistent excellence.
Schwecke’s dedication to the sport is unparalleled. Coach Carscallen emphasized, “He really kind of wrestles year-round. I think that’s been the biggest part of how much he’s grown in these short couple of years.” Schwecke participates in freestyle events and tournaments throughout the offseason and early fall, seizing every opportunity to hone his skills.
Described as an offensive-minded “three-round grind” wrestler, Schwecke is laser-focused on potential state titles for this year and next. His ambitions extend beyond high school, with aspirations to wrestle in college while pursuing a degree in engineering. “He’s always reviewing film; always looking for ways to get better; he’s super-coachable,” Carscallen noted. “I really think he’s one of the favorites to win the state tournament.”
As the wrestling season progresses, all eyes will be on Schwecke as he aims to elevate his game and achieve his championship dreams. Fans and followers are eager to witness his journey, marking him as a standout athlete to watch in the coming months.
