Valdosta Students Achieve Academic Distinction at Multiple Institutions

BATON ROUGE, La. — Two students from Valdosta have recently received significant academic honors, reflecting their dedication and achievement in higher education. William Clifton has been elected to the esteemed Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Mercer University, while William Richards has earned the Global Scholar Distinction from Georgia State University during the Fall 2025 semester.

William Clifton Joins Prestigious Honor Society

William Clifton is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni invited to join Phi Kappa Phi each year. This honor society is recognized as the oldest and most selective collegiate honor society across various disciplines in the United States. Membership is by invitation only, requiring nomination and approval from a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for this prestigious recognition. Additionally, graduate students in the top 10 percent of their cohort may qualify, along with faculty and alumni who have achieved notable scholarly distinction.

Global Scholar Distinction for William Richards

William Richards, also from Valdosta, has achieved the Global Scholar Distinction at Georgia State University for his academic performance during the Fall 2025 semester. In another commendable achievement, Brody M. Sturgill from Naylor has been named to the dean’s honor roll at the University of Central Oklahoma for the same semester. This honor is awarded to students who maintain a full-time enrollment and achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 with no grade lower than a B, showcasing Sturgill’s dedication to academic excellence.
