Thomasville’s 105th Rose Show Opens with Stunning Orchids Display Today

Thomasville Rose Show Opens with Spectacular Orchids Exhibit Amid Historic Drought

THOMASVILLE, GA — The 105th annual Thomasville Rose Show and Festival launched Friday morning with a breathtaking orchids exhibit that stunned attendees at the Municipal Building. The “Orchids on Parade” display served as the official grand opening, featuring hundreds of blooming orchids that have defied months of severe drought in South Georgia.

The event started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Michael Thomas, president of the Thomasville Orchid Society, who praised the hard work of local growers and the collaboration with the Big Bend Orchid Society. “You will be amazed,” Thomas promised as visitors filled the room eager to see and buy locally grown orchids while gaining expert insights from vendors like Orchid House 850 and Orchids in Bloom.

“It’s an honor to be celebrating the 105th Rose Show Festival, and to have the Orchids on Parade be the grand opening is quite an honor,” said Mayor Scott Chastain, who urged guests to savor the moment amid the challenges of organizing the event.

Chastain expressed personal enthusiasm for the floral spectacle, noting plans to bring his mother back to purchase orchids at the show.

The highlight moment came when Miss Thomasville 2025, Ana Chambers, and her court officially cut the ribbon, signaling the official start of the multi-day festival.

Orchids Bloom Against the Odds

Despite record drought conditions reported by drought.gov showing historically dry weather from September 2025 through March 2026, the orchid collections bloomed brilliantly. Some Thomas County areas only recently saw an inch of rain, making this year’s vibrant floral display a rare achievement.

“With an orchid collection, you’re never quite sure when they’ll bloom,” Thomas noted. “Year after year, we’ve been blessed, including this time.”

The variety of orchids on display reflects diverse gardening backgrounds and intense dedication from regional growers. Visitors were encouraged to join the Thomasville Orchid Society, which meets monthly to share knowledge and nurture this delicate craft.

What’s Next at the Rose Show Festival

The festival will continue through the weekend, offering more floral exhibits, educational demonstrations, and vendor sales. This event remains a significant cultural highlight for Thomasville and the surrounding region, attracting plant lovers and tourists nationwide.

For enthusiasts wanting to get involved, the Thomasville Orchid Society meets every second Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Dawson Street Methodist Church, located at 1132 N. Dawson St.
